The protagonist of "The Robe," he says in a woman's dress was caught in the age of ten years after the cloth too tightly bound naked to her waist, an event that cost him the love of his father. Roland Dott, the mentally unstable main title of the story, was rejected by his idol high school, after making a whistle, a bathroom and a console 40 years with an exaggerated sense of self. Much of the sharpness of vision Ebershoff comes from his position of his characters in a hostile world and misunderstandings, rather than in a gay world of cocktails, and casual hairstyle replicas.
